Privacy Policy

Legacy, LLC ("Legacy", "we", "us") runs this website and the Legacy memoir service. This policy explains what we collect, why, who helps us handle it, and the choices you have. The short version: your stories are yours. We use them to make your memoir and for nothing else.

What we collect

• Account details: your name, email address, password (stored only in hashed form), and, if you give them, a phone number and mailing address.
• Your story: what you say or type in conversation with your guide, the details you enter at setup, the names of people and places you mention, your edits to the manuscript, and any photographs you upload.
• Your voice: when you speak, your browser turns speech into text and sends us the text. Legacy does not keep recordings of your voice.
• Purchases: what was bought, when, and for whom. Card payments are handled by our payment processor. Legacy never sees or stores your full card number.
• Gift details: if you give Legacy as a gift, the recipient's name and email address and the message you write.
• Your Legacy Contact and anyone you invite: the name and email address of the person you choose to look after your memoir, and of family members you invite to read it.
• Messages and feedback: emails you send us and answers you give to our surveys.
• Technical information: the device and browser you use, your IP address, and the pages you visit, kept in ordinary server logs and used to keep the service working and secure.

How we use it

• To hold your conversations, remember what you have told us, and write, revise and produce your memoir.
• To deliver what was bought: the eBook, the printed hardcover and the audiobook, depending on the package.
• To run your account, send the emails the service depends on (sign-in, progress, delivery), and answer you when you write to us.
• To keep the service secure, prevent fraud, and fix problems.
• To understand, in aggregate, how Legacy is used so we can improve it.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not publish, quote or share any part of your story without your written permission. Legacy does not use your stories to train AI models.

Gifts

If someone gave you Legacy, they are told when the gift is activated and when the book is on its way. They never see your conversations or your manuscript unless you choose to invite them.

Who helps us

Legacy relies on a small number of service providers, each of which receives only what it needs to do its job:

• AI services that hold the conversation and help write and edit the memoir.
• Voice services that speak your guide's words aloud and narrate the audiobook.
• A print partner that prints the hardcover and ships it to the address given.
• A payment processor that takes card payments.
• Email and text message services that deliver our messages to you.
• Hosting and backup providers that run our servers.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the safety and rights of our customers and of Legacy. If Legacy is ever sold or merged, your information would pass to the new owner under the promises made here.

Cookies

Legacy uses a small number of cookies that the service needs to work, such as the one that keeps you signed in. We may also use privacy-respecting analytics to count visits to our public pages. We do not use advertising cookies inside your account.

How long we keep things

We keep your account and your memoir for as long as your account is open, so that you and your family can come back to it and order more copies. If you ask us to delete your account, we delete your story, your photographs and your personal details, apart from records we are required to keep, such as proof of a purchase. Backups are overwritten on a regular cycle.

Your choices

• See or get a copy of what we hold about you, including your conversations and manuscript.
• Correct anything that is wrong.
• Delete your account and your story.
• Stop optional messages such as reminders and surveys. Messages the service depends on, like a password reset, will still be sent.

To do any of these, write to info@legacyai.com. We will answer within 30 days. Depending on where you live, the law may give you further rights, and we will honour them.

Your Legacy Contact

You may name a Legacy Contact. If you become unable to continue, or after your death, that person can access your memoir and order copies. They cannot change what you wrote.

Security

Your connection to Legacy is encrypted, passwords are stored in hashed form, and access to customer data is limited to the few people who need it to support you. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach ever affects your information, we will tell you.

Children

Legacy is for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.

Changes to this policy

If we make a change that matters, we will tell you by email or on this page before it takes effect. The date at the top shows when the policy was last updated.
